Hi! I'm Clyde - Your Official CyberTutor!
My Secrets of Success are here to make your life in school a whole lot easier!

CyberTutor Memory Strategy

Here's a Cyber Strategy just so you can remember certain dates and numbers that your teacher may test you on!

This cyber-secret is also good for your friend's phone numbers, birthdays and other numbers you want to remember while having some fun!

And remember... (Learning is not about being smart. It's just about knowing the strategies for how to learn!)

Memory Strategy for Numbers and Dates

Whenever you have to remember numbers, dates, addresses, etc. you can use what is called a number-shape system to speed up your learning time and give you more free time. You can use your imagination to make learning numbers easy and fun!

Imagine each number to be in the following shapes:

1 - pen 2 - swan 3 - camel humps

4 - sail 5 - hook 6 - golf club

7- cliff 8 - hourglass 9 - pipe

0 - ball

Now you can make connections between the numbers and the shapes, by making up a story. You can tell your parents that this is a very efficient strategy for them, too. Your memory gets 5 times better when you use pictures.

Repeat the numbers and their shapes out loud a couple of times before you make up your story, while you are looking upward as if you are watching a movie screen. (The looking up towards the ceiling part is very important - it's how your brain recalls pictures the easiest.)

Time to make up the story now. Let's say you have to remember a date in history, take 1492, for example, when Columbus sailed to America. How would you use the numbers 1 4 9 2 in a story?

You might create a story like Columbus picked up his pen (1) and sailed (4) on his ship while smoking a pipe (9) and then he saw a swan (2) who led him to America. Remembering the story will easily translate back to the actual date and event you want to remember: Pen is 1, sail is 4, pipe is 9 and swan is 2, 1492. The funnier and more unique and ridiculous you make your story, the easier it is to remember.

Telephone numbers and addresses work the same way. Your story does not need to make sense either. Simply make a story using the shapes of the numbers which remind you of the actual numbers.

It is helpful to know that all memory strategies make use the of the same two elements, pictures with connections or associations. Whenever you are asked to remember anything in school like dates or things in order, be sure to ask yourself what each thing reminds you of in order to get a strong association. Then link that association with big and bright pictures and your memory will be very strong. You will astound your parents, teachers and your classmates.
