"First let me say thank you to you Pat and all the experts that participated on the call. I found the telephone class very informative; in fact, Pat you shed light on something that has puzzled me all this past school year with my LD/AD grand-daughter about the breakdown between knowing something at home and then completely blowing the test at school.
Being able to 'meet' the experts allowed me to find out who could answer my questions and what future telephone classes I need to register for. I gleaned some real pearls of information from the call and will definitely investigate the websites of those experts. I feel that they have much to offer in my journey of advocating, teaching, and empowering my grand-daughter. This summer she will have an independent evaluation by a multi-interdisciplinary pediatric developmental team as part of a mediation agreement between myself and the school district and I found Dr. Barnhill's comments very insightful and I look forward to his telephone class being scheduled."

"Great! Very good introductory session. We were able to get a feel of the breadth of subjects that will be covered in the future and the kinds of situations that exist in the area of learning. There is a focus on problem situations and "special" children that I think is unfortunate. As Dr. Guffanti points out misclassifications take place because auditory or visual-verbal learners are the ones setting the criteria for what is normal, without necessarily being aware of other people's sensory preferences or learning styles.
It was an eye-opener to the degree of the problems of learning "disabilities". I don't hear much of this in the Philippines, but I suspect that it is a case of people not even being aware of the problem OR that this is a problem.
My particular interest is just to raise everyone's level of learning skills through becoming informed about the 8 intelligences, our sensory input preferences and using this knowledge to improve how we learn. There is to great a tendency to label people to quickly just because they are different. At the moment, I am focused on bringing accelerated learning to adults, many of who do not have learning problems (at least not now) OR to just improve their learning abilities WITHOUT labeling them one way or another. I want to start of by calling them normal and good learners. The thing is, most of the time, I have to work at convincing people that they are all GOOD LEARNERS. Not "How Smart Your Are" BUT "How Your Are Smart" is the question I get them to focus on.
However, I do want to reach the parents with, and, students in schools as well. I am thus looking for a full breadth of materials for learning improvement from new parents to pre-school, nursery, elementary, and high school students. And then of course the teachers. I am looking for materials to teach teachers how to be more effective through the use of teaching methods that use all the intelligences and all the sensory inputs.
The session with David Lazear will probably address the issues I am concerned with more. But that is also because of my focus on "normal" cases and lack of awareness of the other kinds of learning problems that exist. The Vision Theraphy may be very good information for some others. (I am taking a natural vision correction program to get rid of my eyeglasses - also something not too many people are aware that can be done.)
