More than likely, you awoke this morning to an electric alarm clock placed within a foot of your bed, made breakfast and coffee using electrical appliances like a coffee maker, toaster or microwave, maybe checked out the morning news on your television, used an electric shaver, toothbrush, or hair dryer and possibly spoke on a cordless phone. You did all this before getting into your car (powered by hundreds of micro-computers), opening your garage door with an electric opener, driving to work all along roads intersected with power lines, stopping off for a snack at a store using electronic bar coding scanner and talking on your cell phone. When you got to your office, perhaps you walked through automatic doors, turned off an alarm system, turned on overhead fluorescent lights, powered up your computer, fax and printer and got to work. You may not have even noticed that there were satellite dishes on top of your building or that there was an electric substation in your neighborhood. This is the typical day for most of us, and at the end of it, we reverse the order going home. In addition, we may add a few hours of TV watching to our regimen. Nearly every aspect of our lives is "electrically" oriented. Whether you know it or not, you are being exposed to millions of EMF's or electromagnetic field frequencies 24 hours per day, without knowing what they are, what they do, who regulates them and whether they can potentially harm your body. As a way to begin to evaluate our new high tech world, let’s go back in time around 100 years and imagine what our grandparent’s environment was like. There would be a lot of horses and maybe even a few horseless carriages putting around on dirt roads. Henry Ford had just built his first car a few years prior. What you wouldn’t see are powerlines, any electrical appliances, cell phones, computers or televisions! Life was a little different back then. In the last 100 years we have seen more technological advancements than in the entire history of humanity prior to 1900. Today there are more technological advancements in one minute than all the advancements between 1800 and 1900. That's an amazing indication of how fast humanity is growing and advancing. And it goes without saying, that all these technological achievements allow more and more people to connect with each other, accomplish more, create more and ultimately to enjoy life more. While the people at Clarus applaud all these wonderful developments they also study the EMF research and are very concerned about everyone's safety. In 1990, the EPA issue published a "preliminary draft report called Evaluation of the Potential Carcinogenicity of Electromagnetic Fields in which it recommended that low-frequency EMF's be considered a class B carcinogen, like radon (a radioactive gas). While the entire electromagnetic spectrum was of interest, the report focused on two ranges, one encompassing everything from domestic wiring to high-tension lines and the other including most telecommunications-type exposures. When it appeared that the Bush administration was going to quash the report, the draft review was released, and it became one of the most quoted "preliminary" reports around. The EPA's Science Advisory Board intends to release a shorter, revised version, which is said to call for an emphasis on nervous-system and biophysical effects." (From Levitt, Blake, Electromagnetic Fields; A Consumer's Guide to the Issues and How to Protect Ourselves. Harcourt Brace, 1995). The information in the report provides enough data that The Office of Assessment of Congress of the United States recommends a "policy of prudent avoidance" with respect to electromagnetic fields, and there are now several hundred independent and University ssociated reports linking electromagnetic fields with health problems. Some of the particular health problems studied are:
If you are interested in reading more about this research there are two excellent books you may want to read: The EMF Book by Mark A. Pinsky and Electromagnetic Fields by B. Blake Levitt. The questions you need to ask yourself are about the side effects of all the EMF's and the potential side effects that we may not even know about yet. We don't need to look very far to notice that our whole society has changed drastically, not only in its behavior but in the types of stress we experience, the stress effects on our children and their physical bodies as well as their behavior as well as on the entire ecosystem. With any great changes in living style the human system will need to adapt. The question is, what kind of adaptation response are we having to this high level and constant exposure to electromagnetic fields. EMF studies today are reminiscent of those related to smoking. Although significant scientific research clearly linked smoking and health problems as early as the 1930's, many magazines carried ads of doctors in white coats smoking and saying "To your good health". Today this is astounding to anyone who has read the research on the subject of smoking, but back then they had no idea of the harmful effects. And even when harmful effects were discovered early on, they were largely covered up for many years due to the monetary interests at stake. You may be astounded to learn that even the American Medical Association continued to accept large sums of advertising money from the tobacco industry well after the harmful effects of tobacco smoking were thoroughly scientifically documented. In fact, Dr. Morris Fishbein, editor of the AMA Journal for 25 years, continued to run ads in the AMA Journal and other medical journals for 20 years after the evidence that smoking was harmful was revealed. The ads offered doctors free packs of Philip Morris and the company sent representatives to doctors' offices to give them free cigarettes and talk to them about the health advantages of the company's cigarettes. (Howard Wolinsky and Tom Brune, The Serpent on the Staff: The Unhealthy Politics of the American Medical Association, New York, Tarcher/Putnam, 1994, pg. 145, 146). In 1925, cigarette "tar" was shown to cause cancer. (Kenneth Warner, Welling Smoke: Cigarette Advertising and Public Health (Washington, D.C.: American Public Health Association, 1986, pg. 19.) In 1938, a professor of the New York Academy of Medicine showed that smoking reduced life expectancy. (Raymond Pearl, "Tobacco Smoking and Longevity", Science, March 4, 1938. During that year, Time Magazine reported it was enough to "make tobacco users' flesh creep." Many men who fought in World War II will remember the Army doctors handing out cigarettes to help them "stay alert and yet remain calm". The same type of information about a substance known as asbestos is also true. Prior to 1968, it was a plentiful insulating material and thought to be harmless. And remember what various government agencies thought about asbestos prior to 1968. No problem for your health. Yet, now, asbestos has or is being removed from all schools and public buildings and no longer used when building homes. The point is - how much more research is needed before the government acts and effectively warns of the hazard of EMF's? And, is there anything we can all do to protect ourselves and our children from these harmful fields? What are EMF's? Anytime you have electricity or electrons flowing through wire or through space - there is a corresponding magnetic field generated perpendicular to the flow of electrons. The magnetic field is very difficult to shield -- it passes through most metal, walls, rock, and humans. The question is, when it passes through humans (or animals for that matter), is it simply passing right through without disrupting or changing anything, or is it perhaps affecting something that may lead to some concern - particularly over time. The magnetic field intensity of EMF's are measured in what is called "milli-gauss", using a gauss meter that is fairly easy to get nowadays. (Look in the yellow pages under electrical supply houses). You can easily measure the EMF intensity of every appliance in your home and know how far away you would need to stand from a device before you are not exposed to a dangerous level of its EMF. In the audio tape that comes with the Q-Link, there is an audible demonstration of EMF. A gauss meter is placed near several common devices found in most homes and lets you hear the sound the meter makes when close to these appliances. It is estimated that in the last 50 years, the amount of electromagnetic fields has increased by 100 million times. This means that every day, particularly if you live in a metropolitan area, you are now daily exposed to 100 million times the radiation your grandparents experienced. Really, the complete ramifications of this won’t be known for years, but at least we know that the increase of these types of influences represent a radical environmental change to the human condition. Paul Brodeur, a noted science journalist who was one of the first to alert the public about the dangers of asbestos and EMF, says that whenever your living environment changes rapidly due to the introduction of new forces (such as EMF) your body is compelled to adapt. This creates a condition known as "adaptation stress". Some of the symptoms that he identified of this type of stress are: fatigue, confusion, lack of concentration and focus, headaches, backaches, and increased emotional volatility. In a nutshell, what Clarus products do, is bring back the natural life-supporting frequencies found everywhere in nature into our immediate environment. They do this in spite of the deleterious effects of electromagnetic fields. It turns out that those frequencies of energy that we call "Natural", like those found these days away from the cities, in the mountains, or right by the oceans, are not absent in the presence of high technology, but simply overridden, or interfered with. Because Clarus products activate those same fundamental energies found in nature, our minds and bodies are more able to restore themselves and even enhance their own ability to both cope and flourish in today's electronic and information age. The Q-Link Pendant and other Clarus products actually work something like a tuning fork. They "activate" the natural, basic life supporting energies within our bio-energetic body. In other words, the Clarus products help your body restore itself to its natural state and allow the EMF fields to pass through your cells without harming them. The results of this process are many and well documented in scientific research. One of the most obvious effect is in the area of stress reduction. This shows up as less muscle tension, fewer headaches (especially when working around computers and in other electronic equipment environments), and a restored sense of calm and balance. Athletes report enhanced energy and better performance, double blind studies involving children with ADHD show a significant decrease in problem behaviors and health professionals report extraordinary benefits for their patients. Dr. William Tiller of Stanford University states that "Clarus products act on the chaotic aspects of electromagnetic waves AND sets up a positive resonance with the natural energy of the person in the field which appears to strengthen natural immunities to man-made EMF" What are Clarus Products Made Of? The components of the Q-Link are over 75 feet of specially wrapped copper wire, a surface mounted micro chip and circuit board with some additional proprietary materials. The components are all imprinted and processed in our privately owned manufacturing facilities via a method developed exclusively by Clarus. Everything is put together by hand and sealed with extremely high quality, hypoallergenic water proof resin. The case is light weight, hypo allergenic and the cord is a silk/nylon. Altogether, the Q-Link only weighs 1/2 ounce. The Clarus clocks and Ally contain special circuitry designed to cover a larger area. The ClearWave covers about 1500 square feet and the ClearWave Pro covers about 2,500 square feet. The Ally is the portable unit that you can either plug in or carry with you anywhere. It lasts about 8 hours as a portable unit after charging. There is a significant amount of scientific documentation available for those who are interested in reading more (however, this information is highly technical and mainly for researchers and scientists).
