As I watched my friend hold her baby in the pouch wrapped around her body, and place her cell phone into the zippered section right at the new baby’s back, I wondered – is this safe for the baby and can the cellphone cause cancer?
The first court case on whether a cellphone caused cancer was called Reynard v. NEC and filed by a husband whose wife had died from brain cancer – just in the area where she used her cell phone.
Of course the debates rage on worldwide, but the question still lingers in my mind – is a cell phone safe to hold at your ear and can a cellphone cause cancer?
I know I always use my cell phone on speakerphone to avoid just that possibility, but then of course there are cell phone towers, telephone wires, high voltage power lines, our household electrical appliances and so much EMF (electric and magnetic fields radiation) in the air all around us that we are all exposed to EMF at all times.
The Environmental Protection Agency advises your to place distance between yourself and the electric power lines to decrease exposure.
“Dr. David Carpenter, Dean at the School of Public Health, State University of New York believes it is likely that up to 30% of all childhood cancers come from exposure to EMFs. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns “There is reason for concern” and advises prudent avoidance“.
On April 13, 2011, the New York Times published a rather intriguing article asking the ongoing question, “Do Cellphones Cause Brain Cancer?”
This article, by Siddhartha Mukherjee is one of the most useful and extensive I’ve read on the subject of cellphones and cancer. It compares the world’s leading studies.
So, my question to you and please respond on the form below – can your cellphone cause cancer?
