Start with whole nutritious foods which support brain function.
Fruit based smoothies will become a favorite of most children, especially when you add:
- Blueberries – They’re abundant in anti-oxidants as well as provide phytonutrients which improve cognitive function and sharpen memory. The richer the color and intensity of the fruit, the more nutritive value the berries possess.
- Ground flaxseed – It’s high in fiber and aids digestion, and also it’s packed with healthy omega-3 fats. (But not the seeds which pass straight through the GI tract and are not digestible.) Once the seeds are ground up, you have to consume them within 15 minutes.

As a side dish, add spinach which helps protect the brain from oxidative stress while reducing the risk of suffering from an age-related decline.
Research shows spinach-rich diets significantly improve learning capacity and motor skills.
On the side of the plate, parents can add dry fruits such as raisins and dates, which are rich in iron and other minerals and increase mental alertness and raises energy levels.
Red pepper is another side that’s a great source of antioxidants, specifically Vitamin C, and has been shown to improve cognitive function.
Turkey, which is rich in amino acid tyrosine that helps in production of neuro-transmitters that allow kids to remain alert and energetic, is an alternate to eggs.
Add an avocado wrapped with turkey, or as an avocado shake. Avocados are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids crucial for many brain functions.
Never forget about the value of water. If not taken in adequate amounts, it leads to fatigue, fogginess, poor concentration, and dizziness.
The human brain is only 2 percent of the total body weight, yet it needs roughly 20 percent of the total calorie intake in order to function correctly. It needs a constant supply of glucose for optimum efficiency.
