- Reading homework assignments and books into a digital recording, then playing them back so she could listen to what she just read
- Reading a paragraph, then outlining what she just read on notecards, then re-reading the same paragraph for improved retention
- Letting her use a laptop computer to write her assignments and book reports.
To their disappointment, nothing was working and Brandi’s last report card was clear evidence to that fact.
She was now making D’s and F’s in every subject that required focused reading and comprehension skills.
She was still restless-impulsive and had poor concentration when reading which are both core symptoms of ADHD which ultimately causes learning problems in most children and teens who have ADHD.
As it turns out, children and teens with ADHD-combined type can effectively focus on task when the task is fast moving, highly stimulating and totally absorbing.

We think that anything that stimulates and provides multiple distractions of differing intensities allows the ADHD brain to hyper-focus on one specific task by masking or filtering out lower level distractions that would normally bother the rest of us.

Over the next six months, Brandi’s ability to focus on reading, understanding what she read, retention of facts and reading speed improved dramatically with the use of a digital reader.
By the end of the school year, her language-reading based grades had improved to high “B’s” and she had developed a lot more confidence and self-esteem in making good grades.
