Saving money while attending college is essential.
Tuition, books, housing, meals, and miscellaneous expenses leave the average college student either greatly in debt or with little money to spare. Either way, it is important consider cost when purchasing necessities. Printers are a virtual requirement these days for college students, so here are five cost-effective printers for the frugal college student:
5. Samsung ML-2165W
Coming in at around $90-$100, this monochrome laser printer features wireless capability, 21 pages per minute (PPM) speed, and a compact size that will fit easily into any dorm room or apartment. Using an authentic Samsung cartridge (which is highly recommended), 1,500 pages can be printed for about $50, meaning the cost per page is about 3.3 cents per page. This is about as cheap as you are going to get for monochrome printing.
4. Ricoh Aficio 1210N
Costing a little over $100 depending on where you buy it, this monochrome printer provides legendary Ricoh quality at an affordable cost-per-page price. This unit is compact and efficient, putting out up to 23 PPM. With a genuine Ricoh printer cartridge costing around $67 and producing 2,600 pages, the cost per page is only 2.5 cents.
3. Konica Minolta Magicolor 1600W
For those students who need color printing, be they art students or simply business students looking to impress with flashy images, this is an excellent choice for a budget-friendly color printer. While the initial investment of around $190 may seem large, the overall cost of 4.2 cents per page is cheap in the long run. If a color printer is required, this is an excellent deal.
2. Dell B1160W
Costing less than $90, this monochrome wireless laser printer is one of the cheapest available. With a cost of 4.8 cents per page (calculated by the cost of a $74 toner cartridge that prints 1,500 pages), a student can get Dell quality and compatibility at a very affordable price.
1. Canon Image Class LBP-6000
This monochrome printer can be found at less than $75 and takes up a minimum of space. A print cartridge will cost around $80 and will last for 1,000 pages. This works out to about five cents per page. While higher than some per page costs of other printers on this list, 1,000 pages should suffice most college careers and, when combined with the low printer price, makes for a great bargain.
