I’m so excited to announce that I’ve just completed the second book in the Winning The ADHD Battle Series! It’s Family Strategies for ADHD Kids. I get questions on a weekly if not daily basis from parents and grandparents regarding ADHD and finally decided it was time to put this knowledge I’ve been sharing into book form. My mission is to help parents make learning easier for their ADD kids, whether it is with or without hyperactivity or dyslexia or other learning problems. This past year there has been an abundance of frustrated and/or overwhelmed parents asking questions regarding how they can help their ADD kids at home – and give them the edge to success. This book is the outcome of that frustration.

How Does the ADHD Kids Mind Work?
The words ‘attention deficit disorder’ are almost synonymous with the ‘inability to staying focused’. That seems to be one of the BIG problems for kids with ADHD, whether it is the inattentive type or the hyperactive type. This is because unlike other minds, the ADHD mind often jumps from one unconnected thought to another and this happens repeatedly throughout the day. It takes a huge effort for attention deficit kids to stay focused.
Most attention deficit disorder kids don’t even realize they are NOT attending, that is just the way their brain works. They haven’t experienced a focused mind for long periods of time. So, they don’t always stay focused and may not even understand why we expect them to stay focused. In fact, they may not even understand what we mean by saying “I need you to stay focused.” Family Strategies for ADHD Kids is full of strategies that take advantage of how the ADHD mind works. Remember, when you work with the natural way your mind words, life becomes easier. Some things you can do are to plan on frequent breaks, change up the activity, structure the break times.
The book is filled with practical easy to implement daily living strategies. It is for parents, family members, teachers, and youth group leaders that are looking for practical easy to implement ways to help their ADD kids manage their day both at home and at school with greater ease. Family Strategies… is filled with techniques that have been used successfully in all age levels.
Did you know you could just rearrange your bedroom and life will be easier and more organized? There are specific suggestions in the book on the best bedroom room arrangements. There is an example for how to arrange and organize your week given too. Altogether there are 8 specific strategies just to improve your ADD kids organizational skills.
This book, like School Strategies for ADHD Kids is different from my other books. Those books are the methods for improving reading (Five Minutes to Better Reading Skills), spelling (Making Spelling Sense), writing & study skills (Ten Minutes to Better Study Skills & The Writer’s Easy Reference Guide), and math (BT Easy Math Reference Guide). They are all curriculum based and available at www.bonnieterrylearning.com.
Family Strategies for ADHD Kids, is more of a management book so that life is easier and learning is more effective at home when you have kids that have attention deficits – whether they are inattentive or hyperactive.
