I am going to Chicago May 9 to audition for the reality TV show Shark Tank!
For those who aren’t familiar with the Shark Tank show, it’s where entrepreneurs go in front of five wealthy investors to pitch their business idea. If they are interested, they will make an offer to invest in the business. The shark part is when they fight over the idea or figuratively “bite” the entrepreneur because they are unprepared or have a silly idea. I am willing to take the risk!
Though I am secretly petrified to do this, I am really committed to my mission of helping young adults (high school and college students) feel more confident and competent with their reading abilities. We need to become more of a nation of readers, not just those who know how to read.
I have been growing the Rev It Up Reading brand (specifically the online reading course) and think that a stint on TV would be a great boost for public awareness and interest in this unique product.
By going on the show, I can:
1 – Inform the Sharks and television viewers about Rev It Up Reading.
2 – Hopefully secure a financial deal with one of the investors so that I can create a shortened version of my online course focusing specifically on the high school and college population and using the remaining funds for marketing. Additionally, I would benefit from any of the contacts the Sharks can connect me to.
There are 2500 people allowed to audition in 5 audition sites around the country. The chances of me getting on the show are slim, but I’m willing to give it the good old college try!
