Léman Manhattan Preparatory School is thrilled to introduce Summer Learning @ Léman: a riveting and challenging program open to all New York City eighth through 12th graders. Hosted at Léman Manhattan’s state-of-the-art Financial District (FiDi) facilities, the inaugural curriculum features three two-week courses – philosophy, creative writing, and computer programming – that will offer students the chance to have fun and expand their horizons while earning credit toward their high school diploma.
“Education is a constant process that shouldn’t stop for summer vacation,” said Drew Alexander, Head of School for Léman Manhattan Preparatory School. “It is so crucial that children utilize their critical thinking skills through their time off, and we are proud to open our doors and provide that opportunity to all New York City learners.”
True to Léman Manhattan Prep’s tradition, each summer course is led by a member of the school’s talented and passionate teaching staff. Participating students will enjoy distinguished guest speakers, field trips to New York’s finest cultural institutions, and a full schedule of hands-on activities. Conveniently located in FiDi (with 14 subway lines and ferry service to New Jersey, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens), Summer Learning @ Léman is easily accessible for students across the greater New York City region.
The following courses are offered from Monday, June 17 to Wednesday, July 3:
- · History, Philosophy, and NYC: Linking Past to Present with Big Ideas
From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Taught by Ben Cope-Kasten, this one-of-a-kind course immerses students in the writings of Plato, Descartes, Kant, and Nietzsche, and inspires them to draw connections between the perspectives of historic philosophers and their experiences living in contemporary New York City.
- · Writing Creatively
From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Taught by Zara Zuckerman, this compelling workshop encourages young writers to explore many creative mediums – from short fiction to poetry – and culminates with a semi-public reading.
