Even on a cold night in January a school focused on partnering with parents held their inaugural session of Parent Academy for Student Success (PASS). According to Sandra Cullis, assistant superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction for Denville ownship School District the Goal of PASS is to “to create a forum to facilitate open conversations about student achievement through parent-school partnerships.”
Cullis said, “There are a lot of questions surrounding the Common Core, PARCC, and other educational initiatives. The Parent Academy for Student Success is an opportunity to address questions in an open and honest setting.”
A brief overview of CCSAS was given, and is available on the district website. Parents divided into groups, hearing presentations about how CCSS relates to subjects, English language arts, and mathematics.
Future topics will include gifted programs, assessment, out of school programs, and report cards.
