An event at an elementary school in Baltimore celebrated moving salad bars to schools by commemorating the 4,00th salad bar in a school under the program.
The milestone is the result of over $10 million invested by partners, foundations, and donors. Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools is an initiative in support of first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! program. The effort provides equipment and training to school districts enrolled in the national school lunch program.
In 2010, The organization was founded by a consortium of groups, including Whole Foods market, the United Fresh Start Foundation, The Chef Ann Foundation, and the National Fruit and Vegetable Alliance. The largest sustaining partner is the Whole Kids Foundation
First lady Michelle Obama was pleased with the progress. “Today’s announcement is an exciting milestone,” she said. “I’m thrilled that the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative has helped bring 4,000 school salad bars to more than 2 million children nationwide.”
