It may seem simple, but a kindness curriculum reaches a positive goal when a principal urges girls to compliment each other.
Compliments such as “You look great!”, “Have an amazing day!” “Be happy!” “Your smile looks good on you. You should wear it often.” are just a few of the positive messages that greeted Crone middle School students on their lockers one Tuesday morning after a three day weekend.
Sixth graders Ashley Gardner and Kathryn Kennedy developed the project to encourage all students, and the notes were part of that project. The plan developed after a discussion in Allison Harvey’s sixth grade English language arts class. “We got the idea after watching a video on bullying,” Ashley said.
The project did not end with the surprise notes on lockers. After the success of the notes, the students sent a note to their principal, Joseph Sweeney.
The principal was enthusiastic about the idea. Quickly, he called the girls into the office and handed them sticky pads that could be used to make over a thousand notes for all the lockers.
