Some of the pictures that line the walls of a middle school classroom are of children who have now gone on to college, but they still inspire, as students enjoy recognition in military style in this particular room for many years.
Mitch Major has been preserving pictures of students as “four star generals” at Skaneteles Middle School since he started teaching there in 2001. His sixth grade classroom where he displays the highest achievers of his “Four Star General Program” is the very place where he once attended middle school as a student.
“I was in this room as a seventh-grader in Mr. Weber’s science class,” he said.
A similar program was developed by seventh grade teacher Lori Usifer in 2003, and her students pictures hang in a classroom gallery for the “Presidents’ Club”. Both teachers have promised to keep the students’ pictures in their respective rooms as long as they have a room to teach in.
