Moral and social support for students entering middle school is the for us of high school students in response to the suicide of a seventh grader last year
There is a growing effort to give support to Folsom Middle School students for the shift from elementary to higher grades spurred by the death of 12 year old Ronin Shimizu from suicide. Ronin had enrolled in school but was pulled out for home-schooling due to bullying.
“I didn’t want it to be just anti-bullying. That’s symptomatic of a lot of things. There are so many issues,” said media teacher Janice Johnson said of the effort by high school to reach out. The Vista del Lago students “jumped on board. It was a million miles an hour from that point forward.”
More than 90 students volunteered and many have younger siblings in the middle school.
