All girls want time to be with other girls and enjoy some girl talk.  Now the New Heights program in some New Hampshire middle schools offers GirlTalk! to fifth grade girls

Girl Talk“It’s an opportunity for girls to let down their guard and be uninterrupted in their thoughts,” said New Heights’ Becca Pawling, who leads the discussion group. “Fifth-grade girls are at a special time in their development, riding a line between childhood and adolescence. Independence, responsibility and camaraderie are all aspects that need attention during this transitional time.”

Research shows that groups which facilitate friendship are important in middle school girls’ lives.  “Girls need support and opportunities to share these feelings with others,” said New Heights Executive Director Tracey Tucker. “Society’s portrayal of females in general creates stressors we need to intentionally work to address and overcome”,
