Tapping into a rich local history, students have created a Jeopardy style game  for local people focused on local events, called “You Live Here, You Should Know This”.

You Live Here, You Should Know ThisThe Lackawanna Historical Society partners with students from Valley View High School and Riverside Junior Senior High School to put on the game, giving local personalities a chance to compete for the privilege of saying that they know everything about Northeastern Pennsylvania.

There is a history of the region that stretches across railroad tracks, hiding in mines, and local establishments, from breweries to bowling alleys. Eight teams of local history experts and personalities will answer questions that the students have created about Lackawanna County.

During the school year, Juniors and seniors from the schools prepare for the event, creating 250 questions about local history.  They met four times at the Historical Society headquarters, where they took a step back in time.

“I really liked looking through the old phone books,” said Valley View junior, Douglas Gerichten. “I didn’t realize they had phone books from 1901 and the 1800s.”
