Special needs students were given the opportunity to find jobs and learn about applying for them at “The Amazing Race to Employment”.  The event connects disabled students with employers.

Amazing Race To EmploymentMegan Carpio is looking for employment. She has volunteered at several businesses, but would like to find the right place for her.

“I wanted a job at Petco, but now I feel like I want to work with flowers now,” she said

Adriana Peterman wants to work at a coffee shop. “I would like to work at a coffee shop,” Peterman said. “My sister works at Starbucks.”

According to Aaron Stachovak, an educator at Next Step Connections, a transition program in the Manitowoc Public School District, “Students with disabilities have a difficult time at times getting out and finding those jobs and making those initial calls.  This event, hopefully, will help our students practice those soft skills they need.”
