A new technical training campus is attracting several hundred students for classes starting in mid August.
In Lawrence Kansas, mre than 300 students will attend classes at the new Lawrence technical training campus.
According to officials with the Peaslee Technical Training Center and the College and Career Center of the Lawrence School District, work is progressing on the construction of the campus.
“These are pretty exciting times,” said Patrick Kelly, director of career and technical education for Lawrence public schools. “We are really filling a gap that has existed for a long time.”
The former Honeywell building will house the 17,000 square foot training center. Classes will include construction, allied health, emergency medical services, biotechnology, criminal justice, industrial engineering technology, welding, and computer technology.
High school students are able to take some of the classes at Peaslee Tech. 20 high school students have registered for the construction program.
Per state law, many of the technical training classes are free for high school juniors and seniors.
