May is Lemonade Day Month and schools celebrate National Lemonade Day through promoting sales at lemonade stands and helping kids learn about running a business.
In keeping with the spirit of the event, a National Lemonade Day celebration was held in several elementary schools in the Hudson Valley area.
According to teachers Ashley Koroshazi and Christina Roppel fifth graders look forward to Lemonade Day, and they prepare the students in different subjects.
“In math class, they use a spreadsheet that gives them an accurate idea of the amount of money that they need to borrow from our ‘Seton Loan Board,'” Koroshazi said. “In social studies they learn economic terms to use when they present their business plans.”
Students also learn about local charites and vote for one to support with the money they raise. They create a slogan and a jimgle for their team. In computer class, they write brochures with information about their charity and their lemonade stand.
