Middle school students have much to be proud of since their science class published a book on butterflies.
Now students at Lexington Middle School can be considered experts on butterflies, as they are published authors. Two classes published eBooks this year after performing research in class.
According to science teacher Darren Hansen, the students chose to research butterflies as it was a flexible topic for students to research while creating images and videos.
Hansen says eBook creation is catching on among students.
“Nebraska is a leader in using the program iBooks. Apple is aware of what’s being done here,” he said. Two of his classes competed in the NeBooks competition organized by the Nebraska Department of Education.
“My students participated by writing an eBook on Butterflies of Nebraska and submitting it for the showcase. We used iBooks Author to format and publish our books for this event. My Third Period Science Class received first place in the category of Best use of iBooks Author to create an eBook,” Hansen said.
