A specials classes combined lesson reinforces teamwork when classes and teachers work together.
At Jefferson Parkway Elementary School (JPES) the specials classes recently held one class together, combining art, music, and physical education (PE) and relating them to each other.
“We have a very strong specials team here at JPES,” said Rebecca Watford, JPES art teacher.
Art, music, and PE are unique classes, known as specials.
“We feel that a well-rounded student is a successful and happy student … The lesson, JPES Specials Rock, was designed to combine art, music, and PE by introducing eight well-known master artists and using the history of each artist to incorporate specific dance moves all to a modern re-mix of the tune, ‘Frere Jacques,’” said Watford.
One advantage of combining the dance moves with what they learned in their music and art classes, was that students experienced teamwork, and saw how music, dance, and PE work together.
