A project based learning assignment with real life meaning is benefiting a community, as Waterfront Stadium plans are created by fourth graders.
The students examined the structure of Waterfront Stadium, making lists as the chilly wind whipped around. The fourth graders of Andrew Ratke’s classroom from Mary A. White Elementary School are creating ideas to improve the stadium and possibly presenting them to the Grand Haven City Council.
The fourth graders are suggesting possible improvements for the the site. Some of the suggestions include cleaning, and developing a park for children which would add brighter colors.
9 year old Brooke Edmondson likes the project because she wants people to become more excited about the downtown area.
“I mostly think it helps the waterfront and people around here,” she said.
Students have been speaking with local business owners and residents to get ideas about attracting people to come to the area. Some of the changes they have suggested for businesses include more hands on opportunities for children and adding QR codes to local restaurant menus.
