On a beautiful hot summer day, an innovative program is building student strength at summer school.
During the school year, one seventh grader failed her math class and was at serious risk of repeating the grade. The summer study, known as “content recovery” is focusing on her specific academic weaknesses and working with her to master those skills.
Once she demonstrates that she had mastered those skills with a passing grade of 70 during three weeks or less, she will move on to 8th grade in her Aiken South Carolina school.
“It’s good to come to summer school,” she said. “It helps you bring up your grades to be able to pass. You probably learn more than you did the last semester.”
Math is not the only subject area for content recovery. Other schools in the Aiken area are featuring similar programs focused on English, social studies, or science.
