A special program is providing an opportunity to have students reenact medieval times.
Seventh grade students at Oakwood Middle School participated in Medieval Day with a local group of performers from the non profit March of Alderford, a part of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).
Teachers Matt Carpenter and John Spondyl coordinated the activity, where reenactors demonstrated activities that were common during the feudal period, performed battle scenes, and wore costumes of the era.
“We wanted to give the students an authentic learning experience at the end of the year that would supplement what we taught in the classroom,” Carpenter said. “We’re really excited and appreciate making these kinds of partnerships in the community,” Carpenter said. “This presentation allows our students to see what we talked about in class. We’re also thankful for the volunteer group taking time off work to be here today and sharing their talents with our students.”
