A series of regional math camps has motivated students to be all fired up for math and science.

All Fired Up for Math and ScienceAt California State University, Stanislaus, rising seventh through ninth graders have had an Algebra Math Camp and Pre-Freshmen Enrichment Program Math & Science Academy available to them during summer vacation. The programs are available through the university’s Math Grants Department, the California Mathematics Project and the Math and Science Teacher Initiative.

The Algebra Math Camp is for students who need to enhance math skills and understanding. “This camp is for students who come to the university needing to fill the gaps in their math skills and understanding. These camps give them more assistance in a different way in a smaller classroom, while also sticking to one subject to provide a truly in-depth understanding of the curriculum” said Mathematics Professor and Department of Math Grants Director Dr. Viji K Sundar.

In addition, students can attend the PREP Math & Science Academy, which is designed to enhance their thinking skills and solve real life world problems. “They will be solving problems the way that problems really get solved in the real world,” said Sundar. “This class will challenge them at every level.”
