Middle school students are learning and teaching an important lesson by turning recyclables into art.
At Veterans Memorial Middle School, students are using beach recyclables such as plastic bottles to build sculptures. The art shows how littering adds up on beaches. The large scale sculptures are of pieces of furniture and other items, looking realistic, but made completely out of plastics.
The students partnered with the Brick Township Environmental Commission, promoting trash free water and educate residents and beach visitors about plastics in the ocean. The projects will be displayed at the beaches during Fourth of July weekend.
“These students are taking what they have learned through their studies and using it to help educate others in our community through this creative project,” said Mayor John Ducey. “We hope that visitors to our public beach appreciate and take something away from this cooperative effort.”
