When school opens on August 10, teachers will be welcoming fifth graders to middle school. At Martinsville PREP Academy, Principal Cynthia Tarpley commented on preparations for opening a school within Martinsville Middle School just for fifth graders.
“We’ve been doing a lot this summer,” she said.
Communication with parents has been key to getting the new school up and running at Martinsville PREP Academy. PREP means Programming & Resources to Enhance Potential. There are tours of the school, an open door attitude, and parent meetings in preparation. So far, Tarpley has not received any negative feedback, and continues to encourage parents to tell her their ideas.
The academy will move fifth grades from two elementary schools to the middle school. It is designed to give fifth graders a head start for success in middle school, allowing them more resources than are available at the elementary schools. Additional benefits include the use of federal money, and relieving overcrowding at one of the elementary schools.
