A new school year has given an opportunity to a new principal creating a culture of trust in a high school which needed improvement in the general atmosphere of the school.

Principal Creating a Culture of TrustAshley High School has had a few years of below average North Carolina Teacher Working Conditions surveys and accreditation reports. New principal Patrick McCarty is looking to make an improvement by creating a “culture of trust” among faculty, staff, parents, students and administration. He believes that trust is built over time, and he will spend much of the first nine weeks of school outside his office.

“Any time new leadership comes in you have to be able to establish trust,” he said. “That will be key for me, and a big part of that is getting out and being visible and being accessible.” This includes an open door policy which he has always maintained.
