This summer an exchange sister school relationship made it possible to have teachers bring American ideas to Chinese students.

Teachers Bring American Ideas to Chinese StudentsThey taught core subjects, but also showed Chinese students American style learning experiences, such as research opportunities, hands on learning, and a mock homecoming week and prom.

Teachers from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek participated in the summer exchange with their sister school, Song Lei, in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province.

The summer exchange was part of a new sister-school relationship between Lakeview High School and Song Lei, a high school in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province. Students from other areas also participated in the summer program.  There were 100 students, ranging from seventh to eleventh grade.

“The purpose of having the sister school is just to make it a more meaningful exchange,” said Lakeview High School International Programs Coordinator Mary Jagielski. “We love having international students come from all over the world. It’s a wonderful experience and we get to know that student, they’re able to share their culture with the kids who interact with them, but then they’re gone and then that’s all we know of them.”
