Drivers used to open the bus doors with old-fashioned handles on their right. Newer buses are built with an electronic switch on their left which causes the driver to look away from the loading area where the children exit the bus. These door have no sensors, unline elevator doors that automatically re open the door when a person still has an arm or foot in the doorway.
