Math is on the stairs at one elementary school, and a famous comedian has helped the stairs go viral.
At Alcova Elementary in Dacula, Georgia, strips of math facts and multiplication tables have been installed on stairs inside the school. Students use the stairs daily, and the repetition helps them know their math facts.
The idea has caught on in social media. Comedian D.L. Hughley has caused it to go viral.
The message from teachers and administrators is clear. Having math facts around them in their environment says to students “This is important to our school.”
When an Alcova teacher shared a picture on Facebook, Hughley shared it with the comment “this school gets it”. Hughley’s post received more than 57,000 likes.
Fifth grader Ella Byce feels the “multiplication stairs” will help her know her facts for both multiplication and division.
“I think that it will be better for me because I can study them more often,” she said. “Because sometimes at home I don’t really get the chance to study, so when I’m going up the stairs, I can just study them and then be able to know them.”
