During a “CSI whodunit” family night students and families were busily solving the mystery of who stole the cookies.
“Everybody is engaged and everybody is having fun,” said academic intervention specialist and parent involvement coordinator Carol Spice, who is the event organizer. “The thing I like the most, is that the kids and parents are interacting. They are reading together and they are thinking together.”
King Middle School students in Milton, Florida already knew about the cookie theft as they saw a video showing the faculty discovering the crime. The video introduced four suspects – Mrs. Bessie Big Bottom, Professor Peabody, Mrs. Heloise Hannigan and Mary Poppins.
Students solved math problems with their parents before moving to the crime scene in the cafeteria and then following the footprints to a classroom lab.
“It’s good to see how things are run around here,” said Dawn Diaz, a mother who wanted to see how her son’s new school works. “This (also) gives us something to do as a family on Friday night.”
