Twitter connections are a trend for teachers in Oklahoma, or in the language of social media, the connections are #trending.
There’s even a hashtag to spread the word about Oklahoma education tweets, #OklaEd. The hashtag was used during the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s summer conference, EngageOK.
The #OklaEd hashtag is uniting Oklahoma educators. It signals a new world of positive professional development and encouragement that teachers can access at any time.
According to fifth grade teacher Kimberly Blodgett, the tweets that carry #OklaEd have resulted in her adopting a positive approach to teaching.
“I think it’s great every Sunday evening to watch everyone share their ideas back and forth. It’s inspiring to me,” Blodgett said. “It’s a very positive energy. It makes you excited about what you do.”
The hashtag was started in January 2013 when two school superintendents were looking for a way to tie education related posts together. The hashtag became a trend when teachers got together at a conference, and decided to have a weekly chat. Today, The chat on Oklahoma education is open on Twitter Sundays from 8 to 9 pm.
“I think it’s great every Sunday evening to watch everyone share their ideas back and forth. It’s inspiring to me,” Blodgett said. “It’s a very positive energy. It makes you excited about what you do.”
