It may be a bad pun, but some families are bragging that at this school, art will a-maze and delight.
At Shaw Elementary in Wasilla, AK, students from pre-k through fifth grades will have the unique opportunity to design their own maze. The maze of mosaics will be installed by flagpole front.
The project is funded by a grant for Artists in Schools from the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment of the Arts and the Rasmuson Foundation.
“I thought it would be a cool thing for the school to try to do,” said teacher Brian Porcello.
“We’re fortunate to have Shala come in and expose kids to every building block of the artistic concepts,” said Maija Fritts, a second-year teacher at Shaw.
Dobson and the teachers have worked science, history and math into their lessons with the maze.
