Inspiring kids for careers as first responders and giving them the skills to succeed in those careers is the goal of technical school teachers who themselves have served the public as EMTs and firefighters.
At Northwest Career and Technical Academy Jack Greaves teaches the Fire Science and EMT class
“Our goal is to make them understand there really is no better way to go through life than to serve the public,” Greaves said.
According to Executive Director Doug Walker, this is the first year for the fire science program.
“We look to the workforce in the community,” Walker said. “What are high-demand, high-wage jobs in our community? Public safety has come up as one of those areas.”
Greaves was a teacher in the Arlington School District for ten years. He is currently a firefighter and EMT in Bothell.
