The city of Raleigh North Carolina is gearing up for the World of Bluegrass Festival, and an opportunity was given to have Fox Road Elementary Students experience bluegrass music at its finest.
The visitation program of Bluegrass artists is in its third year. The program is made possible by United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County.
“It’s something that International Bluegrass Music Association thought was very important,” said Eleanor Oakley, president of the local arts council. “It introduces bluegrass to a new audience, and it’s also a great teaching tool to make sure children know about that type of music.”
“We’re raising the roof and raising awareness,” said Fox Road principal Bob Lewis. “There’s a connection to North Carolina that goes well with our International Baccalaureate theme.”
According to Lewis, the bluegrass artists connect the students to North Carolina culture.
