At the first annual Language Fair hosted by the Ector County Independent School District, students had the opportunity to experience language and art coming together. The Fair wasnt just about language, but about the cultural experience as well.
That cultural experience included everything from Roman soldiers to folklorico dancers, a variety of foods and plenty of history. The intent of the Language Fair was to test the current foreign language students in their skills and encourage others to learn another culture.
According to languages other than English (LOTE) coordinator Jessie Garcia, the fair shows students about learning a language and culture as they begin their academic career.
“We are really trying to bring culture into what we do,” Garcia said. “We want these students to really learn the language. But by just reading it out of text books it doesn’t really teach them about the culture of the language.
