Peer mentoring middle schoolers is a very effective way to help younger students ease the transition from elementary school.
The mentors are easy to recognise in their program shirts. “They come up to us every time they see us wearing our (program) shirts,” said eighth-grader Moyraa Ali.
The eighth graders are older friends the younger students can turn to. In addition, the program includes orientation, and year round activities.
There is a high school component of the mentorship program called Link Crew. Both programs are part of a national initiative called the Boomerang Project.
