Peer mentoring middle schoolers is a very effective way to help younger students ease the transition from elementary school.

Mentoring Middle SchoolersEighth graders can see the impact they have on fifth graders entering Glacier Creek Middle School in Cross Plains. The mentoring program they participate in is called Where Everyone Belongs.

The mentors are easy to recognise in their program shirts. “They come up to us every time they see us wearing our (program) shirts,” said eighth-grader Moyraa Ali.

The eighth graders are older friends the younger students can turn to. In addition, the program includes orientation, and year round activities.

There is a high school component of the mentorship program called Link Crew. Both programs are part of a national initiative called the Boomerang Project.
