Combining learning and movement is an effective educational strategy, and now elementary school students learn math and science through street hockey.

Students Learn Math and Science Through Street HockeyA program sponsored by the Tampa Bay Lightning allows fourth and fifth graders at Walden Lake Elementary  School to learn the basics of hockey while applying math and science concepts. They were visited by members of a street hockey team who taught the sport as part of the Build The Thunder program.

Members of a street hockey team visited the school and taught students how to play the sport as part of the Lightning’s Build the Thunder program.

Each student received a ball, hockey stick and a voucher to attend a Tampa Bay Lightning game.

The team also donated the nets and equipment to the school so that students could play year round.

“They are beyond excited,” said teacher Susan Edison.
