Middle school families will host Chinese exchange students and teachers just in time to celebrate the Chinese new year. Host families include students as well as faculty of Lake Middle School in Millbury.
This is the first time that Lake Middle School has participated in the program. Students are very excited at the opportunity to meet peers from the other side of the world. “We might not be able to get all our kids to travel, but we can bring a piece of the bigger world here,” said Jay Ackerman, Lake Middle School principal.
The exchange students and teachers will view science and social studies classes, and extracurricular activities. They will also visit the Toledo Zoo, Ohio Skate, and the Imagination Station.
“The idea is for them to experience American culture in a school setting. They’ll go to basketball games, go to class and do whatever their mentors do,” said Pat Murtha, Rossford High School assistant principal. “Both American and Chinese students will learn firsthand about the differences in their cultures.”
