High school students are bringing history to life at a veterans memorial park. They are writing up historical accounts to be placed in Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park on pillars.
Students in the History/Archaeology club have been researching titles to be engraved on the pillars. The research covers all wars that local veterans have participated in, from the Civil War to the present.
According to volunteer advisor Joe Monarski, the focus is Stoughton area veterans “and their experience serving in the armed forces of the United States.” 48 pillars will bear inscriptions of a maximum of 250 words each.
Monarski says that the students spent most of the first semester learning research techniques. “Meetings are often driven by student interest as we hold an open forum to discuss and explore topics that individual kids bring up,” he said.
