Charting developments in the stock market has students excited to build portfolios for an investing contest.
Hundreds of students, including the Eisenhower fifth graders in Kevin Meyers class will have the opportunity to participate in an annual School Stock Contest sponsored by the Toledo newspaper The Blade. “I think we have a pretty good strategy,” said Derek Pfeiffer, one of Mr. Meyer’s students.
Each team has the task of splitting a make believe 40,000 evenly among four stocks. Teams will track investments for three months, and can rebalance their portfolio at the halfway point.
Additional sponsors include Fifth Third Bank and the University of Toledo’s college of business and innovation. The college will calculate results.
Winners will receive $250 plus $250 for their school. Second prize is $250 for the school and third prize is $100 for the school
