An all girl robotics team will compete against the best in the world, and students at Pleasant Valley Junior High School couldn’t be more proud.
Later this month, ten students will participate in a world robotics competition in St. Louis. The girls are members of the Flourish and Bits robotics team will compete at the first LEGO League championships against teams that are mostly boys. Team coach Theresa Barber, who is Pleasant Valley’s robotics coordinator, is proud to lead the first team from Iowa invited to compete.
“Girls are usually under-represented in STEM (short for science, technology, engineering and math). The majority of teams are boys or mostly boys,” she said. “Last year, I coached my first team of eight girls. I’m really excited to have a full team of 10 girls going to worlds this year.”
