A New Tech school within a school is ready to launch, and students at Goshen Middle School couldn’t be more excited about the changes for the new year.

17 teachers will facilitate classes at the New Tech school, which will be attended by approximately 500 students.  The school is part of the New Tech Network, which integrates technology in the classroom, while challenging students with real problems that meet required standards.

According to Principal Lori Schreiner, the major challenge is letting the community know what New Tech is all about. Goshen’s teachers have access to professional development and coaching thanks to New Tech and being part of the network.  Project based learning is definitely a major piece of how learning is designed.  And although New Tech is a school within a school, students are  still part of Goshen Middle School.  It will be housed in a separate wing and have a separate faculty, but students will be included in the larger Goshen Middle School social group.

Educators are trying to instill the traits of grit, perseverance, and resolve in students.  New Tech is teaching students to take charge of their own learning, and be comfortable advocating for their own needs and those of their community.
