The Woodson Kindergarten Center opened a series of videos introducing young students to technology to support the youngest students in the Austin Public Schools transition into time in school. Recognition has been awarded to Principal Jessica Cabeen for these and other technological efforts.
The Digital Early Learning award was given to Cabeen and other recipients through the National Association of Elementary School Principals. They provided $2,000 for her to speak at two sessions during the national conference July 5 to 8.
Cabeen is shopping for air fare deals, as the left over money can be used for school technology purchases. “I’m Price Lining everyday to find the cheapest flights because the cheaper I am out there, the more money I get to spend here,” she said.
Woodson has been recognized for being proactive about introducing very young students to technology. Four years ago Woodson bought six iPads for each classroom. These are integrated into learning each day. Cabeen notes that iPads are more relevant to the young children than laptops or desktop computers.
