A career readiness academy offers job opportunities for students, using nontraditional teaching methods and integrating career and technical education with core content areas.
At the Mosley Performance Learning Center, different programs have been housed over the years, but next year the center will be solely occupied by the Career Readiness Academy.
The academy was launched in August 2015. Its presence in the building is unmistakable. The media center is a career center. College pennants align the back wall, as staff members celebrate where they went to school. Natural light is abundant from the floor to ceiling windows.
Coaches at the academy often speak with students about their own college careers, and how they arrived to work at the positions they have today.
According to Brooke Hazelwood, an instructional coach, staff prepares students for whatever their next step is, whether it is four year college or university, or community college. They want their students to explore all options and opportunities.
