A highly unusual fashion show was a display of unique creativity, having kids model clothing made from recyclables.
The fifth graders showed off their environmentally conscious creations in the school gym, reflecting awareness of where the materials come from.
The focus of the project was to show students where clothing comes from, how to be conscious of environmentally decisions, and practical skills such as using a sewing machine. The activity was part of the school STEAM program, or science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
There was also a dedication after the fashion show for a mural that the fourth graders painted in the school library, showing the entire world and how people care for it. Throughout all the activities, students learned about landfill waste, recycling, upcycling, and reducing waste.
