Video awards for elementary students celebrated the first year of television production by kids in the Plymouth school district. The ELLY awards honored the students who completed the first year of EDTV Kids with paparazzi and the full red carpet treatment.
EDTV is recognized as one of the best public school broadcast news programs in the country. As early as fourth grade, students learn the basics of movie making, in a way that allows them to develop their individual talents.
At the awards ceremony, montages of the best videos were shown from Plymouth’s eight elementary schools, and awards were given to students for the best story from each school. Some of the stories featured were a look at a principal’s tie collection, a morning exercise program, extreme animals, and Beamer the therapy dog.
Students make the films using iPad and iMovie software. All equipment is intentionally basic, so that they can make movies using devices they already have at home.
