Student teams working with local business problem solvers had an opportunity to present solutions to local problems as part of a program called Challenge 4 the Future.
The problems they addressed ranged from finding ways to make the St. Clair County Community College Fieldhouse more attractive to young people, to getting out the vote in Marine City, to helping a corporation create a communications strategy.
“We have teams of students and teachers that worked in businesses across the county to solve a real problem or challenge the company faced,” said Rachel Verschaeve, educational technology consultant at the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency. According to her, the focus of the program was to provide “experience in a real business and also learn about real work environments” for students.
Winning team members were guaranteed a $1000 scholarship. Those who decided to attend St. Clair County Community College or Baker College received an additional $500.
